Gastroenteritis
Definition
Gastroenteritis is defined as a bowel movement that is not normal or watery stools form with more frequency than usual (FKUI, 1965).
Gastroenteritis is inflammation of the stomach and intestinal bacteria caused by diverse, viral and parasitic pathogens (Whaley & Wong's, 1995).
Gastroenteritis is characteristic of kondisis with vomiting and diarrhea caused by infection, allergy or poisoning of food substances (Marlenan Mayers, 1995).
Gastroentritis (GE) is an inflammation of the stomach and intestines that give the symptoms of diarrhea with or without vomiting (Sowden, et all.1996).
Symptoms
By definition, gastroenteritis affects both the stomach and the intestines, resulting in both vomiting and diarrhea.
Common symptoms may include:
* Low grade fever to 100°F (37.7°C)
* Nausea with or without vomiting
* Mild-to-moderate diarrhea:
* Crampy painful abdominal bloating
More serious symptoms :
* Blood in vomit or stool
* Vomiting more than 48 hours
* Fever higher than 101°F (40°C)
* Swollen abdomen or abdominal pain
* Dehydration - weakness, lightheadedness, decreased urination, dry skin, dry mouth and lack of sweat and tears are characteristic findings.
